Before joining the firm in February 2017, Ms. Howard was senior litigation counsel for CNA’s In-House Coverage Litigation Group where she represented CNA underwriting companies in all aspects of litigation, including trial and appeal.  She provided advice on claim handling and underwriting as to commercial general liability, first-party property, auto, specialty, health, professional, and workers compensation policies.  She addressed claims involving construction defect, product liability, bad faith, employer practices, personal and advertising injury, mass tort, environmental, sexual abuse, and UM/UIM.  Prior to being in-house, Ms. Howard was a litigation partner at a major Chicago law firm where she concentrated her practice in the areas of insurance coverage, school law, and defending professional, product and premises liability claims. 

Ms. Howard has tried to verdict jury matters in Illinois State and Federal Courts.  Her trial experience ranges from pursuing plaintiff property damage recovery to defense of medical malpractice, RICO and bad faith insurance claims. 

Currently, she concentrates on insurance coverage matters as well as direct defense and trial strategy. Her coverage analysis addresses first-party property and third-party liability matters.  She handles all aspects of litigation in state and federal courts.

Ms. Howard is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, Northern District of Illinois, United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, Northern District of Ohio, and District of Colorado.  She is a member of the Northern District Federal Trial Bar and has been admitted to appear pro hac vice in many state and federal courts.  She was certified as a Cook County Circuit Court Arbitrator.


Ms. Howard is a member of the Defense Research Institute, Illinois State Bar Association and Women’s Bar Association of Illinois.


Ms. Howard graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Sociology, with Distinction, and Political Science from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1983.  She received her J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago in 1986.
